WHO growth standards
This discussion is about the impact of the new WHO growth standards on the management of acute malnutrition worldwide.
We recently recieved this question from a doctor working at a large hospital in Tanzania:
"We have now changed over from the old NCHS growth reference standards to the new WHO growth standards. On the malnutrition ward we have noticed that this means that more children are admitted for inpatient care. The problem is that we don't have space to treat more children. We are already overcrowded. What shall we do?"

We've also found this to be a problem in Kenya, where lots of children are now coming to us, more than before. Doctor Msasi Kenya
